CHITTAGONG: Boycotting classes, the students of Chittagong University Tuesday staged demonstrations to demand withdrawal of the ban on campus politics, increased tuition fees and expulsion of students.

The protestors virtually violated the ban on politicking—which often turns violent at the hillside varsity—as students by thousand paraded the campus in their political postures, witnesses said.   

“They marched in a procession and held protest rally defying the prohibition on political activities on the campus,” says a spot report.

The general students announced Monday the programme of class boycott to protest the decision of the university administration.

As tensions built up on the campus, the administration deployed a huge police contingent to stave off trouble.   

Earlier in 2009, the university authorities banned any procession, rally and any kind of political activities on the campus for an indefinite period to stem a tide of unrest—often erupting into bloody campus rioting.
