Fashion was in the air 17 July (Friday night) as Dhaka geared up for the ‘Dhaka Fashion Week 2010’ at the Dhaka Club. With 14 well-known fashion houses of the country, the most prestigious fashion event of the country embezzled ramp and created the WOW effect among the audience as was expected.
The two day event is organized by Dhaka Fashion Week, a Lifestyle Communications Solution firm headed by noted fashion show director Kawshiki Nasser.
The The Invitation only exclusive audience, comprised of foreign diplomats, buyers, and movers and shakers of Dhaka society witnessed the most exciting, the most exquisite and the most exuberant of the collections by the most exclusive group of designers and fashion labels of the country within the span of a couple of hours .
The make up and Hair was done by Westin Spa. Shuvo and Palash from Bengal Music also performed on the occasion.
Dressed in the traditional attires like the sari, salwar-kameez, Panjabi, fatua and tribal wear, on the one hand and the edgy, slick and sometimes provocative yet subtle western outfits on the other almost 40 models hit the ramp. They also showcased the fusion made of muslin, cotton, chiffon, silk fabrics in the fashion event.
With the background score featuring folk and Bengali songs, as well as Western Rock and HIP hop, the top models of the country named Namerah, Ruma, Nila, Tumpa, and Akash among others ignited a night of passion and glamour on the ramp.
MS. Geete Ara Shafia Chowdhury, Ex- advisor to Care Taker Government and Chairperson ADCOMM limited was the chief guest and ETV chairman Abdus Salam, Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shaymol Dutta and Trends/New Age Editor Konka Karim was present as special guests.
On day one, ANJAN”S , Jatra, Mansha, Fortuna, Dalsania, Matir, B+ and Jarif Fashion show cased their collections.
The event opened with a solo performance/ catwalk by the Face of Dhaka Fashion Week, Super model, Nameerah.
The opening show was by mansha followed by Fortuna and Anjan’s.
In an attempt to revive from the tradandational grandior of muslin and a more modern chiffon into an inspired contemporary yet simple life world look, Matir arranged a range of sarees for this Dhaka Fashion Week inspired with the elegant feminine and floral motifs derived from the idea of nature of goodness and beauty.
Afsana Ahmed Soma’s Dalsania came up with a range of unique and exclusive range of collection that worked around the theme “recycling”.
Zarif Fashion is trying to popularize the traditional Bangladeshi Fabric Jamdani, Silk, Muslin, Tat Fabric. This summer collections featuring traditional jamdani sharee with embellish, kajchupi, sequence works.
