India on Saturday reported the lowest daily cases in 18 days even as the figure significantly remains above the 3-lakh mark. In terms of Covid-19 deaths, the daily toll came below 4,000 after three days.
With 3,26,098 daily new cases, India's total caseload now stands at 2,43,72,907, as per Union health ministry data updated at 8:00 am.
The country recorded 3,890 deaths in 24 hours pushing the national death toll to 2,66,207, as per the ministry's data.
In the past 23 days, India's daily Covid tally has plateaued over the three-lakh mark and over 3,000 casualties for 17 days.
India recorded 4,205 daily Covid deaths, the highest ever on May 12 while on May 7, the country recorded its highest-ever daily cases at 4,14,188.
According to the ministry, a total of 3,53,299 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, with 2,04,32,898 being cured of Covid to date.
The ministry said that a total of 18,04,57,579 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 11,03,625 who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 31,30,17,193 samples have been tested up to May 14 for Covid-19. Of these 16,93,093 samples were tested on Friday.
The overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 161.5 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.35 million, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 32,893,031 and 585,224, respectively, according to the CSSE. In terms of infections, India follows in second place with 24,046,809 cases.
