Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI), an ophthalmic venture of the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, has offered discounts on treatment and tests marking World Sight Day 2022.
The patients can enjoy 50 percent discount on consultation fees of physicians and 25 percent discount on all kinds of medical examination.
Like other organisations at home and abroad, Bashundhara Eye Hospital is observing the World Sight Day with the theme “Love Your Eyes” through various programmes.
Led by BEHRI Director Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed, doctors and staffs of the hospital brought out a rally Thursday morning marking the day.
Starting from the hospital premises at Sabrina Sobhan Road in Block- D of the Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka, they paraded the adjoining area to boost public awareness about eye vision.
Aristovision Pharmaceutical Ltd sponsored the rally while BEHRI arranged treatment and test at discount.
Speaking on the occasion, renowned ophthalmologist Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed said “The World Health Organisation announced October 13 as the World Sight Day to make people aware of the eye problems amid growing rate of blindness.”
About preventive measures, he said refractive error should be detected and treated at early age, power spectacles be used in necessary cases, cataract and corneal diseases be addressed timely to avoid blindness.
He spoke of the need for building awareness absence of which leads to blindness swallowing people up.
Talking to journalists, Hospital Manager Mohammad Ahsan Habib said “We have announced weeklong special discount. The outdoor patients will be enjoying 50 percent discount on doctor consultation fee and 25 percent discount on test till October 19.”
An on-the-spot visit shows heavy turnout of the patients who flocked to the Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute to avail themselves of the opportunity of eye treatment at low cost.
Replying to a query, Manager Mohammad Ahsan Habib said the patients have hailed from the adjoining areas of the Bashundhara R/A and also other places.
It may be mentioned that BEHRI provides poor and helpless people with eye treatment and surgeries for free. It holds eye camps at various parts of the country throughout the year and treats elderly and insolvent patients free of charge.
The patients diagnosed with cataract, DCR and Pterygium problems are selected for surgeries. They are taken to the hospital in Dhaka in phases, operated, given medicines and sent back homes without charging single penny.
