Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI), an ophthalmic venture of the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, operated 11 impoverished patients free of charge.
Hailing from Burichang of Cumilla, five male and six female patients received operations at BEHRI at Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka on Thursday.
Ten of them underwent cataract surgeries while one dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) operation, said hospital sources.
On July 1 this year, Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Vision Care Foundation held a free eye camp at Noor-e-Muhammadia Orphanage Complex at Shikarpur at Nimsar in Burichang of Cumilla.
They examined around 600 patients and provided treatment for free. However, a group of patients having cataract and other serious problems were selected for surgery.
Before 11 patients, scores of people selected in the camp had received operations at BEHRI in two previous phases.
In a press statement, Hospital Manager Mohammad Ahsan Habib said over 1,550 poor and helpless patients underwent surgeries from BEHRI without charge so far.
