KABUL: A Taliban-style bomb has killed another NATO soldier in Afghanistan, the military NATO said Friday.
The soldier, whose identity was not revealed, died after an attack with an improvised explosive device, or IED, in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, NATO`s International Security Assistance Force said.
The death brings to 342 the total number of foreign troops to die in Afghanistan so far this year, according to an AFP tally based on that kept by icasualties.org. The total last year was 520.
IEDs are the main cause of foreign troops` deaths, military commanders say, as the Taliban increases the yields of the homemade bombs to counter defensive measures by the NATO and United States.
The United States and NATO have 140,000 troops in Afghanistan fighting the insurgency, with another 10,000 due to deploy in coming weeks, concentrating on southern Helmand and Kandahar provinces where fighting is fiercest.
