MANILA: The death toll from a typhoon that hit the Philippines this week has risen to 38, with 47 people still missing, the government said on Friday.
Conson hit the Southeast Asian archipelago late on Tuesday, then whipped Manila and other parts of the main island of Luzon throughout the night with wind gusts of 120 kilometres (74 miles) an hour.
Thirty`eight people have now been confirmed dead, the National Disaster Coordinating Council said in its latest bulletin, eight more than its tally the previous day.
The council said 47 people were also missing.
