New Zealand teen survives 16-storey fall

WELLINGTON: A New Zealand teenager has survived a 16-storey fall from his family`s Auckland apartment and is expected to make a full recovery, the New Zealand Herald reported Monday.

The 15-year-old was in a stable condition in hospital with a broken wrist, broken rib, gouged leg and internal injuries three days after his 50-metre (160-foot) plunge.

The boy fell from the balcony of his parent`s apartment and crashed through the steel roof of the building`s carpark, which cushioned his fall before he landed on a concrete floor, the building manager Jason Epps-Eades told the newspaper.

He was taken to taken to hospital in a serious condition but had since stabilised and was expected to be discharged this week.

The cause of his fall was not yet known but witnesses said the boy may have been playing on the balcony.
