A robbery took place at the residence of Gautam Chandra Ghosh, a senior correspondent of the leading online news portal Banglanews24.com, in the Sutrapur area of the capital.
According to Gautam Chandra, thieves broke into his apartment by cutting the grill and stole nearly 20 bhories of gold ornaments and cash amounting to nearly two and a half lakh taka.
The incident occurred on Thursday at a flat on the second floor of a building located in Rup Lal Das Lane, Sutrapur.
Gautam Chandra Ghosh in this regard filed a report to the Sutrapur police on Friday (Nov 15).
According to Ghosh, he and his family had left for Munshiganj on November 13 at 5:00 PM, locking the house behind them. Upon returning to the flat on November 14 at around 10:00 PM, Ghosh found that two rooms in the flat were accessible, but he could not open one of the rooms as the door was locked from the inside.
Later, Ghosh discovered that the grill of the window to the locked room had been cut, and large amount of gold ornaments and cash were missing.
Sutrapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam confirmed the matter.
He said that the police were taking the matter seriously and would take necessary legal actions.
