DHAKA: The 60-hour non-stop hartal, called by BNP-led 18-party demanding poll-time non-party caretaker government, is underway for second consecutive day on Tuesday amid stray incidents of blasts and arson.
On the second day, hartal supporters blasted seven cocktails near the WASA Bhaban at city’s Karwan Bazar area at around 7.00am.
Police fired four rounds of bullets from their shot guns aiming the picketers, sources said.
Confirming the matter, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Tejgaon Zone Afrozul Haque told banglanews that they have been trying to detain the pickets.
Meanwhile, Islami Chhatra Shibir men brought out a protest procession, supporting the hartal, at Nayatola of Maghbazar at around 6.00am.
On information of the presence of police, they left the spot quickly.
Law enforcement agency personnel including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), DB Police and Police have been seen alert in various lanes and by-lanes including the thoroughfares of the city and the country.
Violence in 1st day of hartal
At least five people were killed and around hundreds injured during the first day of 60-hour nonstop countrywide shutdown, began at 6.00am Monday.
