Cabinet reform before polls schedule

DHAKA: Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni categorically said an all-party interim government will be formed with the cabinet reformation before the Election Commission’s (EC) announcement of the schedule for next general elections.

She also said Prime Minister will form the cabinet. All the parties except one or two have responded positively towards the all-party interim government, she added.

She came up with disclosure in an anti-hartal sit-in in front of the Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue on Tuesday morning.

Minister said, “Whether anyone joins in the all-party interim government, the general election will take place in due time. EC will be made stronger to hold a free and fair election. Besides, all kinds of legal helps will be provided to the EC.”

She said: “Opposition leader Khaleda Zia was invited for talks. But talks and violence cannot walk together.”

Slamming opposition BNP-led 18-party for carrying out anarchy in the name of hartal, she said this is disastrous for the 21 lakhs students and day labourers.

Dipu Moni also alleged that BNP was plotting to foil the trial of war criminals.

Organizing Secretary of Awami League Khaled MAhmud Chowdhury and joint general secretary of metropolitan Awami League Haji Mohammad Selim among others attended the programme.
