DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) policymakers think that ruling Awami League (AL) have chosen the road of repression over arbitrary arrests, closure of news media and attacks on journalists.

They made the remark while addressing the journalists at a press conference at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the city on Tuesday afternoon.

BNP policymakers condemned there vehemently and protest the intolerance and violence against the media.

Indicating to the broadcast policy they said there that BNP think that the government okayed the policy to take away the independent of press.

They informed the journalist with the new policy the government might handle the usages of internet and social media which are being to be known as alternative media.

Recalling the 1974 crackdown on the press, BNP leaders said that the government Okayed the broadcast policy just after the warning of a AL minister about to take over independence of the press.

At that time they also brought back memories of the journalists and intellectuals who have been tortured in prison including the daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman.

BNP policy makers vehemently condemned the closing of three privately-owned satellites Television Channel besides monitoring and criticizing Talkshows by the government chief.

Among others, BNP central leaders Abdul Moin Khan, MK Anwar and Abdullah Al Noman were present.
