No election for Awami League before genocide trial: Sarjis Alam

Sarjis Alam, general secretary of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation, declared through a Facebook post on Tuesday afternoon that the Awami League would not be allowed to participate in any elections until those responsible for genocide are brought to justice.

In his post, Sarjis wrote, "No election participation for Awami League before genocide trial. A second uprising, if necessary, will occur."

On the same day, Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, also made a critical post about the Awami League on Facebook.

Hasnat stated, "Climbing to power over the blood of our people while aligning with Delhi as the focal point is a betrayal of the people's aspirations for freedom. Those working to rehabilitate the Awami League will be marked as enemies of history."

He further wrote, "Those who uphold the spirit of the July uprising and reflect the hopes of the masses cannot, under any circumstances, make any statements in the political arena about the Awami League other than ensuring its trial in the post-2024 Bangladesh."

The Facebook posts sparked discussions about political accountability and the demands for justice within the socio-political sphere.
