DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Dhaka City Unit Committee Convener Mirza Abbas on Wednesday categorically said the movement against the Awami League led government would be peaceful.
He added: “The movement will be peaceful but the government becomes panicked,” he said.
The standing committee member of the party made the observation while addressing a joint meeting at BNP City office in city’s Naya Paltan Bhashani Bhaban.
“We can assure the government that there is nothing to be afraid as our chairperson Khaleda Zia will not give us shield-sword for the movement,” he said.
Mentioning that the movement would be peaceful, he said the program on August 16 is not a protest rally, rather a mourning program protesting Gaza attack and mass killing.
There would not be slogans in the rally, he added.
He added: “But we will have nothing to say if the government tries to obstruct our rally.”
City BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Absus Salam, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Abul Khayer Bhuiya, Moazzem Hossain Alal, SA Khaleque and Shahabuddin Ahmed were among others present at the meeting.
