DHAKA: An effigy of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman was burnt on Thursday for his indecent remarks on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and ruling Awami League.
Speakers, at a human chain program held in front of the National Press Club, asked the government to bring Tarique back and try him in different cases.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote also staged a rally protesting the derogatory remarks of Tarique Rahman.
Speakers at the rally said General Zia, former president of the country, was the ‘black sheep’.
They also termed Zia, his wife Khaleda and son Tarique as murderers.
They further claimed that Zia was involved in the conspiracy of killing of Bangabandhu and other four national leaders.
The speakers also blamed Tarique as the mastermind of 21 August grenade attacks aiming to kill Sheikh Hasina so that no one from Bangabandhu’s family can involve in Bangladesh politics.
They also termed Tarique a fugitive, looter and killer, who is now involved in conspiracy against the country.
Advocate Balaram Poddar, US AL President Dr Siddiqur Rahman, AL assistant secretary MA Karim, Krishak League leader Hosne Ara and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarkar Rana also spoke.
