DHAKA: Leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Sena (ICS) brought out processions in the capital during half-day countrywide hartal on Sunday.
ICS enforced hartal, started from 6:00am, protesting the killing of Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqi, a leader of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, and demanding arrest of the killers.
ICS men brought out the procession from the North Gate of Baitul Mokkaram Mosque at 8:30am and began parading to Paltan. As being barred by police, they returned to the Mosque.
On 27 August, unidentified assailants slit the throat of Faruki, a presidium member of Bangladesh Islami Front, parent organization of ICS, at his city’s residence.
Besides, serving as the imam of the Supreme Court Mosque, Faruqi anchored two Islamic programmes on a private satellite television channel and owned a Hajj travel agency, Faruqi Tours and Travels Private Limited.
Three people including a woman were arrested on suspect so far in the killing.
