BOGRA: The half-day hartal, called by 20-party alliance led-by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), observed in the district on Thursday.
The alliance called the hartal in protest against the incident over BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appearance before makeshift court at Dhaka Alia Madrasa premises.
Sources of the alliance said they called the shutdown protesting the police repression on BNP leaders and activists in Dhaka.
Shops and market remained closed due to the hartal. But rickshaws and auto-rickshaws were seen plying on roads.
Besides, train services remained as usual.
The vehicles of newspaper, media, ambulance, fire service unit and law enforcers remained out of the purview of the hartal.
On the other hand, police and other law enforces were seen patrolling in various key points in the district town.
