DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Wednesday deferred the date of deposition for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on the two cases of money embezzlement in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court also asked her to appear all the defenders of the two cases during the deposition on the day.
The makeshift court of 3rd special judge Basudev Roy, set-up on the premises of Dhaka Alia Madrasa ground in city’s Bakshibazar area, passed the order on Wednesday.
The BNP and ACC lawyers locked in scuffles on the judicial court premises earlier in the day.
The scuffles took place after the hearing of the appeal for rescheduling the date of deposition submission of BNP chief Khaleda Zia and others in the two cases of money embezzlement.
Earlier, the makeshift court fixed Wednesday as the date of deposition.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyers Wednesday morning appealed for rescheduling the date of deposition submission of the two cases. They also appealed saying the defender’s inability to be present in the court.
The judge accepted Khaleda’s absence but dismissed the appeal of rescheduling the date of deposition submission.
He also passed the order to start taking deposition.
After the order, Khaleda’s lawyers started shouting inside the court and locked into an altercation with ACC lawyers. They also involved in scuffles.
However, ACC deputy director Harun-or-Rashid was present at the court to submit his deposition for the two cases.
Sanaullah Mia, one of Khaleda’s lawyers, told banglanews that they appealed for rescheduling the date of deposition as BNP chief Khaleda Zia could not be present at the court.
He mentioned the security reason as the cause of her absence.
Later, the judge Basudev Roy rescheduled the date of deposition on September 22 and asked all the defenders to be present at the court.
