Khaleda meets Ramu Buddhists at 8pm

DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to meet affected Buddhist families of Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar where Buddhist temples and houses were damaged in communal attacks on September 29-30, 2012.

The meeting will be held at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office around 8:30pm Monday.

BNP chairperson's media wing member Khairul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On September 29, 2012, following the alleged defamation of the Holy Quran, religious fanatics instigated and allegedly led-by some local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, a religion based political party in the country, went on the rampage in the Buddhists’ villages inhabitants of whom are mainly Bengali Buddhists, who are known as ‘Barua’ community of Ramu upazila of the district.
