TANGAIL: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also Awami League President, will visit the district on Thursday to inaugurate long-waited Dhaleswari Bridge.
Tangail deputy commissioner Anisur Rahman Mia told banglanews that the premier will open the 515.12 meters long bridge to traffic at around 1:00pm on her way to Jamalpur.
Following the program, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader is scheduled to visit the bridge on Wednesday morning.
Earlier on 2001, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia promised for building the bridge at a mass rally and the foundation stone was laid on December 27, 2005.
Later, because of various reasons the construction project remained stopped.
On 2008, Awami League took necessary steps to construct the bridge to fulfill the demand of the people. Then the authority concerned called on tender for the 515.12 meter long bridge.
And the construction work of the bridge has started on March 2010.
