DHAKA: Main opposition BNP is set to stage protest rallies and processions in districts across the country on Sunday.
Party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the announcement after emerging from the meeting of its standing committee members in city’s Gulshan area on Saturday night.
Fakhrul said, “The party is scheduled to hold rallies and processions in protest against ban on holding rallies, meetings and processions in the capital for indefinite period.”
The meeting started at 8:45pm with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in the chair.
Meeting sources said the agenda of the meeting were prime minister’s address to the nation, impose ban on holding rallies, meetings and procession in the capital from Sunday until further instruction, responsibilities of the party over the ongoing situation and fixation of the next course of action.
Acting secretary general standing committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharrof Hossain, MK Anwar, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Abbas, Brig (retd) ASM Hannan Shah, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Sarwari Rahman attended the meeting.
