DHAKA: BNP Chairperson and Opposition leader Khaleda Zia reiterated that her party would participate in the national election if it is held only under a non-party government.
Khaleda Zia came up with the assertion rejecting apparently Prime Minister’s recent proposal on formulation of all-party government for holding the upcoming general elections.
She was addressing the convention of pro-BNP Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Sunday afternoon.
Khaleda also said, “BNP will not participate in the national elections under Sheikh Hasina-led interim government instead of a neutral government.”
“We won’t take part in any election under this government. People of the country want elections under caretaker government. The demand is being intensified,” the former Prime Minister added.
Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) allowed the pro-BNP organization to hold the programme on certain conditions as there was uncertainty due to the ban on political gatherings.
The opposition leader attended the programme as chief guest.
