SIRAJGANJ: District BNP and its associate organizations observed half-day in the district amid stray incidents of violence on Tuesday protesting harassment and arrest of BNP leaders.
The shutdown had started from 6:00am and continued till 1:00pm.
Hartal supporters blasted one cocktail on SB Fajrul Haque road in the town at around 7:45am. Pickets also threw brick chips targeting law enforcers.
Vehicle movements remained normal in the town during hartal.
Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Habibul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Earlier on Sunday, BNP brought out protest procession as part of their central agitation programme.
Being obstructed by police, they locked into clash with them. At one stage BNP activists attacked residence of Prime Minister’s personal doctor Professor Dr Habib, also Awami League leader.
Following the incident, police filed a case against 600 people of BNP and its allies mentioning hundred names.
Later, police, in separate drives, held 28 leaders and activists from different places of the district.
Following the matter, the party called the half day hartal for Tuesday.
