BARISAL: Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) banned all kinds of rallies and meetings in the city, indefinitely, from 12.00am Friday.
The BMP imposed the ban as ruling Awami League sought for permission of a rally at the Sohel Chottor, in front of the party office and the opposition BNP called for a rally at the Ashwini Kumar Hall precinct, which are close to one another, on October 25 (Friday).
Deputy Police Commissioner of BMP (South) TM Mujahidul Islam told banglanews that two main political parties called the rallies at two places closer to one another, on a same date.
He added: “This has forced us to ban all kinds of rallies and meetings within the city to maintain law-and-order.”
Sources said that metropolitan opposition BNP leader Ziauddin Sikder on Tuesday sought for permission of a rally on Friday at the Ashwini Kumar Hall precinct.
On the next day (Wednesday) ruling Awami League secretary Afzalul Karim also sought for permission from the BMP for a rally at the Sohel Chottor, in front of the party office on the same day (Friday).
In this situation, the BMP banned all kinds of rallies and meetings in the city, indefinitely, from 12.00am Friday.
