DHAKA: Opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday claimed that the incumbent government would be “illegal” from Friday (October 25) as the tenure of the government expires Thursday.
“The tenure of the government is going to be expired Thursday and from the Friday the government will be illegal. It’s our duty to stage movement against the illegal government as citizens of the country,” she said.
The Leader of the Opposition came up with the assertion while addressing a rally organized by pro-BNP teachers at the National Press Club.
She also added: “We will not allow any elections under the Awami League government and BNP will not take part any polls under partisan government.”
Regarding the formula of the poll-time government, she said, “We have placed a formula joined parliament and did everything they asked us to do us. We have nothing to do. Now the ball is in your court. Now you must act.”
Defending her formula, she also said the advisers to this interim cabinet can be elected in line with the constitution. “They advisers will go away after three months finishing their job of holding a free and fair election,” she said.
Khaleda Zia claimed that there are still many impartial, educated and competent persons in the country who can hold free, fair and credible elections without favoring any party.
Khaleda Zia also urged the teacher to be united for staging movement against the government and restoring caretaker government.
