COMILLA: At least 17 persons were injured in sporadic clashes between Police and BNP-Jamaat-Shibir men on the second consecutive day (Monday) of 18-party enforced 60-hour hartal in the District Sadar.
Police nabbed five activists of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir in this connection.
Sources said that hartal supporters brought out a procession supporting hartal and later locked into a chase and counter chase with ruling Awami League activists and Police in the Kandirpar Pubali Chattar at around 9.30am Monday.
During the time, BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men blasted 10 cocktails and vandalized a police van.
Police fired around 300 rounds of rubber bullets and 40 tear shells to take the situation under control, leaving 15 persons injured.
In the mean time, BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men locked into a clash with law enforcers at Chakbazar area at the same time and blasted 15 cocktails.
Police fired 20 rounds of rubber bullets to disperse the pickets, leaving two people including a cop injured.
Sub-Inspector (Investigation) of Kotwali Thana Samsuzzaman told banglanews that additional forces were deployed in the area to thwart any untoward situation.
