Passer-by killed in Chandpur

CHANDPUR: A teen-aged passer-by was killed and 20 persons were injured in sporadic clashes between ruling Awami League and BNP men at Old Baazar in the district town on Monday, second day of 60-hour hartal.

The deceased was identified as Md Arju Hossain Paltu Mia, 16, son of Mukbul Hossain of Old Bazar area.

Following the incident, the district administration imposed section 144 in the town for indefinite period.

Police said ruling Awami League and BNP men locked into sporadic clashes from morning. At one stage of the clash, Paltu was stabbed.

Later, he was rushed to Chandpur General Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.

But Doctor Sirajul Islam of the hospital said that Paltu’s body bore the bullet injury marks.

On information, police rushed in and fired tear shell and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control. At that time, hartal supporter hurled 20 to 25 cocktails at law enforcers.
