BNP leader drown in Noakhali police chase

NOAKHALI: A BNP leader drowned as law enforcers chased him in Sirajpur union under Companigani upazila of the district early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Abul Khair, 50, general secretary of ward no 3 of Sirajpur Union Parishad of the upazila.

Abul Khair’s family members alleged that police was raiding various areas of the union parishad to nab the killer the Organizing Secretary of upazila Swechhasebak League Gias Uddin Mamun killed on Wednesday night.

As a part of the drive, police also raided their house at around 4:00am Thursday. Sensing the presence of police, Abul Khair tried to flee the scene and drowned into a pond, they added.

Officer-in-Charge of Companiganj Thana Sajedur Rahman Sajid denied the allegation of raiding his house.
