Shakib Al Hasan’s bank accounts seized

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has frozen all bank accounts belonging to Shakib Al Hasan, the former captain of Bangladesh's national cricket team and ex-parliament member.

Bangladesh Bank representative Husne Ara Shikha shared this update with the media on Wednesday.

Previously, on October 2, the BFIU had sought detailed banking information on Shakib, his wife Umme Ahmed Shishir, and his business interests as part of an inquiry into suspected stock market manipulation and financial misconduct.

The recent account freeze was implemented following instructions from the government after initial findings in the investigation.

Shakib is currently residing in the United States with his family.

Although he was already expected to miss the West Indies series, his future participation in Bangladesh’s cricket team is now uncertain.

The all-rounder had notably announced his retirement from Tests and T20 internationals in late September.

Shakib had also entered politics, running in the 12th general election from his hometown Magura as an Awami League candidate and securing a parliamentary seat.

However, on August 5, parliament was dissolved after the removal of Sheikh Hasina, leading to Shakib's loss of his seat.

Additionally, Shakib was implicated in a murder case in August.
