India needs 7 wickets to win the test

Perth Test witnessing a dramatic turn of events has led to a situation where even a miracle cannot rescue host Australia from a massive defeat. Majestic 161 by India’s emerging prodigy Yashasvi Jaiswal, back to form 100 not out by redoubtable Virat Kohli and classic 62 of KL Rahul propelled India to declaring second Innings at 487/6.

Australia was bundled out for 104 in the first innings responding to Indian score of 150. Set against a imposing target of 534 Australia was looking down the barrel at 12/3 at stumps on day three. No team has ever won a test match scoring more than 418 in the fourth Innings.

This test will go down the history as a testament of brilliant recovery and turn around by the Indian team looking very ordinary after their first innings.  None even the staunchest of Indian Cricket admirer could imagine the dramatic manner the events unfolded. First quality Indian bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah crashed Australians to 104 all out earning useful 46 runs first innings lead and then 22 years old batsman of India’s future Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) plundered Aussie attack on a hot Perth day in allay with KL Rahul (62) in a milestone setting 201 runs opening partnership. Virat Kohli put the icing on the cake scoring his 30th test century.

In 4.2 overs possible on day three Jasprit Bumrah magic reduced Australia to 12/3. Australia cannot score 522 runs required to win the match although they have two complete days remaining at their disposal. No team has ever scored more than 418 in the last innings of a test match for winning a test.

Just Imagine India only a few weeks back was comprehensively whitewashed by New Zealand in their home series. They were blown out on the first day of this test match. This can only happen in a game of glorious uncertainty. Only a natural event like earthquake or Tsunami can rescue Australia from a massive defeat as wicket has also developed cracks and Australia must also have been   traumatized

Theoretically, Australia can still win scoring another 522 runs in two left over days of the test. But for that they have to rewrite cricket history. India will require to bowl very poorly as well. It looks improbable. Indian win is the only logical consequence of the test now.
