South Africa scored 170 runs losing six-wicket while New Zealand scored 168 runs losing eight-wicket in their stipulated 20-over.
JP Duminy scored 86-run off 43 balls helped Proteas to amass a challenging total.
Corey Anderson and Tim Southee took two wickets each for New Zealand.
Ross Taylor scored 62-run for New Zealand.
Dale Steyn bagged four New Zealand wickets.
Earlier, New Zealand captain B McCullum won the toss and invited South Africa to bat first.
The match kicked-off at 3:30pm local time at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
