Lankan bowler HMRKB Herath bagged five wickets and SMSM Senanayake got 2.
Earlier New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium of the port city.
DPMD Jayawardene took 25 runs off 32 balls and HDRL Thirimanne scored 20 runs off 18 balls.
The match was a virtual quarter final between Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
