DHAKA: Bangladesh slumped to 240-run in 47-over while chasing Sri Lanka-set mammoth 333-run target in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Pool A match at Melbourne Cricket Ground Thursday.
Sabbir Rahman was the only batsman to score fifty (53) run while chasing the gargantuan target. Among others, Shakib Al Hasan scored 46-run while Mushfiqur Rahim amassed 36-run.
Besides, Anamul Haque, Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah took 29, 25 and 28 runs respectively.
SL Malinga took three wickets while RAS Lakmal and TM Dilshan grabbed two-wicket each. Besides, AD Mathews and NLTC Perera took one-wicket each.
Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka captain Angela Mathews won the toss and decided to bat first. The match kicked off at 9:30am Bangladesh Time.
Sri Lanka scored a mammoth 332-run for one in stipulated 50 overs with a pair of tons by Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara coupled with Lahiru Thirimanne’s opening fifty.
Thirimanne opened Sri Lanka’s innings with Dilshan on the other end.
Thirimanne scored 52 runs off 78 balls before pacer Rubel Hossain send him back to the pavilion.
At the beginning of the match, Thirimanne got a life as Anamul Haque dropped an easy catch at first slip in Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza’s bowling.
As Thirimanne went back Kumar Sangakkara began accompanying Dilshan since then. Bangladesh saw no more successes as the pair – Sangakkara and Dilshanin - finished the innings unbeaten.
Dilshan scored 161 runs off 146 balls with 22 boundaries while Sangakkara contributed 105 runs off 76 balls with 13 fours and a six.
