SA book record win over WI

DHAKA: AB de Villiers and Imran Tahir helped South Africa (SA) to book an equal record of biggest win in World Cup beating West Indies (WI) by 257 runs in Pool B match Friday.

This is also the fourth biggest victory margins in ODI history.

AB de Villiers’ fastest 150 coupled with three more fifties helped South Africa set a challenging target of 409-run for West Indies.

However, chasing the target, West Indies failed to stay in the match, losing wickets quickly. Finally West Indies batsmen lost their all wickets scoring 151 runs in 33.1 over.

Man of the Match AB de Villiers said: “I started timing the ball and it all came off. Watching the ball is very important, Get to know your own game, play within your weaknesses and strengths and wait to play to your strengths.”

“I don’t see it as a risk. I read the situation, I try to read the bowler and I understand my own momentum and I earn the right to go after the bowlers,” he added.

“The bounce of the ball went my way, but I'm sure West Indies will bounce back,” AB continued.

In South Africa bowling action, Imran Tahir was most successful, as he bagged five wickets.

Earlier, South Africa scored 408 runs for five in 50-over. De Villiers hit an outstanding hundred, scoring 162 runs off 66 balls with 17 fours and eight sixes. His strike rate was at 245.45.

Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis and Rilee Rossouw hit fifties.

South Africa captain AB de Villiers won the toss and decided to bat first. The match kicked off at 9:30am Bangladesh time at Sydney Cricket Ground.
