DHAKA: Australia sealed 275-run victory, the highest run margin in World Cup matches, over debutant Afghanistan in the Pool A match in Perth Wednesday.
With the help of Warner and Maxwell’s blizzards, Australia scored 417-run, the highest ever team total in a World Cup match, in their stipulated 50-over.
While chasing a massive 418-run target, Afghanistan manage to score 142-run losing all wickets in 37.3-over. Nawroz Mangal scored 33 runs while Najibullah Zadran amassed 17.
MG Johnson grabbed four wickets while MA Starc, JR Hazlewood took two wickets each. MG Clarke and GJ Maxwell took one wicket each.
Earlier, Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi won the toss and elected to field first. The match began at 12:30pm Bangladesh time.
Warner scored 178-run off 133-ball while Glenn Maxwell hit 88-run off 39-ball. Steven Smith amassed 95 runs at Western Australia Cricket Association Ground.
Dawlat Zadran and Shapoor Zadran took two wickets each while Hamid Hassan and Nawroz Mangol took one each. Dawlat gave away 101-run in his 10-over quota.
