DHAKA: Kyle Coetzer carrier-best century helped Scotland set a challenging score of 319 runs for Bangladesh in the teams’ ICC Cricket World Cup Pool A match in Nelson Thursday morning.
Scotland scored 318 runs for eight in 50 overs. Coetzer scored 156 – the top World Cup score by any associate member countries’ batsmen.
Scotland had loss of early wickets. But, Coetzer’ 156 runs off 134 balls built a firm position for them. He built his innings with 17 fours and four sixes.
Preston Mommsen added 39 runs while Matt Machan contributed 35 runs.
Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed was the most successful with the blowing figure of 7-0-43-3, followed by Nasir Hossain taking two wickets.
Mashrafe Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan and Sabbir Rahman bagged one wicket each.
Earlier Tigers captain Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and decided to bowl first. The match kicked off at Saxton Oval at 4:00am Bangladesh time.
Thursday’s match is a crucial one for Bangladesh to stay in the quarter-final race.
Both matches of the tournament in Nelson - Ireland beating West Indies and Zimbabwe overcoming UAE - have been won by the side batting second.
Scotland are playing with no change to the team. Bangladesh made one change, leaving out Mominul Haque and bringing in allrounder Nasir Hossain, who will be playing his first ODI since August 25 last year.
