DHAKA: India, with their all-round performance, cruised to a comfortable eight-wicket win over Ireland in the Pool B match of ICC World Cup at Seddon Park in New Zealand Tuesday.
This was the fifth consecutive win for the Team India in the World Cup thanks to Mohammed Shami, R Ashwin and S Dhawan.
While chasing Ireland set 260-run target, India scored 260-run losing only two wickets in 36.5-over.
Shikhar Dhawan scored his second hundred (100-run) in the tournament off 85-ball while RG Sharma amassed 64. Kohli and Rahane scored 44 and 33-run respectively.
SR Thompson was the only Irish bowler to who succeeded to take wickets. He took two wickets sparing 45-run.
Earlier in the day, Ireland captain Porterfield won the toss and elected to bat first in the all important match.
With the help of NJ O’Brien’s 75 and WTS Porterfield’s 67-run, Ireland posed 259-run losing all wickets in 49-over. PR Stirling and A Balbirnie scored 42 and 24 runs respectively.
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami grabbed three wickets and R Ashwin took two wickets. SK Raina, RA Jadeja, UT Yadav and MM Sharma took one wicket each.
