DHAKA: New Zealand’s opener Martin Guptill, who hit a World Cup record score of 237 not out against West Indies, became the top run-scorer of ICC World Cup 2015, overtaking Kumar Sangakkara (541) of Sri Lanka.
Guptill overtook Sangakkara took a total of 547 runs in the final match against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground Sunday morning.
Martin Guptill, however, went back to pavilion after scoring 15 runs.
Except Sunday’s match, Martin Guptill played eight matches, scored 532 runs including an outstanding double-ton with an average of 76.00. He also holds the highest individual score in WC matches –237 not out against West Indies.
Sangakkara is now followed by South African skipper AB de Villiers (498), third leading run-scorer of the tournament.
