DHAKA: Opener Tamim Iqbal hit fifty helping Bangladesh set a big total against Pakistan in their first One Day International (ODI) match at Mirpur in city Friday afternoon.
Bangladesh scored 158 for two in 32 overs at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium of the city till filling this report.
Tamim Iqbal (85 off 99 not out) began the Tigers’ innings with Soumya Sarkar (20 off 36) on the other end of the crease while Junaid Khan bowled the innings’ first over.
However, Soumya did not stay long after he had become victim of run out by Wahab Riaz when Tigers scored 48 in 3.2 overs.
Mahmudullah (5 off 18) came to the crease, began assisting Tamin. Rahat Ali made him walk to the pavilion after a while.
Mushfiqur Rahim (45 off 39 not out) came in then. He and Tamin are batting now, building a 91-run partnership onward in the third wicket.
Earlier, stand-in captain Shakib-Al-Hasan won the toss and decided to bat first. The match kicked off at 2:30pm.
Regular captain Mashrafe Mortaza is not playing the match as he was banned by International Cricket Council (ICC) for one match due to slow over rate in the World Cup 2015 quarterfinal match against India on March 19.
However, Mashrafe will lead Bangladesh in the rest of the two ODI matches and the lone Twenty20 match. Mushfiqur Rahim will captain the team in the test series.
