DHAKA: Young tigers sealed the 7-match ODI series beating Under-19s World Champions South Africa by 8 runs in their 5th match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium of Chittagong.
Bangladesh U-19s captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and decided to bat first.
The youth team piled up 257-run losing nine wickets in their stipulated 50-over. Pinak Ghosh was the top scorer for the hosts with 76-run while Mehedi Miraz and Saif Hassan scored 63 and 33 runs respectively.
South Africa’s Ziyaad Abraham took six Bangladeshi wickets. AD Galiem, BS Makhanya and D Foxcroft took one wicket each.
The South Africa U-19s managed to score 249-run losing nine wickets in their stipulated 50-over and lost the match by 8-run.
Opener Moonsamy scored 63, while PWA Mulder took 50-run. Tony De Zorzi and ABdu Galiem amassed 41 and 60 runs respectively.
Bangladesh’s medium pacer Mohammad Saifuddin picked up five wickets in six over giving away only 27-run. Mehedy Hasan, Saleh Ahmed and Nazmul Hossain Shanto took one wicket each.
Saifuddin was adjudged player of the match for his five-wicket haul.
With the victory, Bangladesh Under-19 gain an unassailable 4-1 lead in the ODI series with two matches to be played.
The 6th Youth ODI will be played at the same venue on April 21.
