DHAKA: Mominul Haque, Imrul Kayes and Mahmudullah’s responsible battings helped Bangladesh score 236 for four at stumps on the opening day of Khulna test against Pakistan.
Tamim Iqbal began a cautious start for the Tigers with Imrul Kayes on the other end of the crease while Junaid Khan bowled the fist over.
Tamim (25 off 74) batted well but failed to make the lunchtime. He walked to the pavilion when Bangladesh scored 52 in 27overs. Yasir Shah took the wicket.
Imrul (51 off 130) hit his career’s second test half-century before Mohammad Hafeez removed him.
Mahmudullah (49 off 123) was not so lucky to make his twelfth test fifty as he fell one run short. He became victim of caught behind of Sarfraz Ahmed while Wahab Riaz was bowling then.
Mominul Haque (80 off not out 162) scored his eighth test fifty but did not manage to stay on the crease for the second day. Zulfiqar Babar made Mominul victim of a leg before wicket (lbw) in 89.5 over while Tigers’ scoreboard was at 236 for four losses.
Shakib Al Hasan remains not out with 19 off 53 balls to resume the second day innings with one of his other team-mates.
Pakistan bowlers, however, showed little courtesy, adding 12 runs extras to Bangladesh’s scoreboard.
Earlier, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and opted to bat first. The match began at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, Khulna at 10:00am local time. The second play will start at the same time.
