Pakistan take lead on Hafeez double-ton

DHAKA: A double-century by Mohammad Hafeez helped Pakistan lead on day-3 in their first innings of the first test against Bangladesh at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Thursday.

Pakistan scored 421 for four after 117 overs till filling this report. The visitors are leading by 70 runs with 6 wickets remaining in the 1st innings.

Mohammad Hafeez hit his test career’s maiden double-century before Shuvagata Hom made Hafeez victim of a sharp catch from Mahmudullah at leg-slip.

Meantime, Mohammad Hafeez scored 224 runs off 332 balls, hitting 23 boundaries and three over boundaries strike rate of 67.46.

Misbah-ul-Haq (43 not out off 78) and Asad Shafiq (6 not out off 14 balls) are on the crease now.

Earlier, Mohammad Hafeez had resumed the innings for the third with Azhar Ali (83 not out off 177 balls) on the other end of the crease while Shakib Al Hasan bowled the first over of the day.

Shuvagata Hom removed Azhar Ali, followed by Taijul Islam’s taking the wicket of Younis Khan (33 off 68 balls).

Pakistan are replying the Bangladesh first innings total of 332-run strongly. At the end of second day, Pakistan scored 227-run losing the wicket of debutant opener Sami Aslam.

Bangladesh have been using eight bowlers in the test so far. However, Taijul Islam was the lone wicket taker on Wednesday.

Earlier, Bangladesh scored 332 runs losing all wickets in their first innings. Tigers lost their last six wickets adding only 96 runs with their overnight score of 236-run at the loss of four.

Among the Pakistan bowlers, Wahab Riaz and Yasir Shah were most successful by bagging three wickets each, while Hafeez and Babar got two wickets each.

Earlier on Tuesday, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and opted to bat first in the match that kicked off at 10:00am local time.

Mominul Haque, Imrul Kayes and Mahmudullah’s responsible batting helped Bangladesh score 236 for four at stumps on the opening day of Khulna test.

Mominul Haque was the top scorer with 80-run while Imrul Kayes, Mahmudullah, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan took 51, 49, 33, 32, 25 and 25 runs respectively.
