DHAKA: With participation of golfers from 24 countries, the four-day ‘Bashundhara Bangladesh Open-2015’ golf tournament has begun in city’s Kurmitola Golf Club Wednesday morning.
The Asian Tour event started after Koh Deng Shan of Singapore, and Afnan Mahmud Mahi (A) and Mohammad Musa of Bangladesh took their tee shots at the first hole at 6:30am.
At the same time, Lalith Kumara (Sri Lanka), Goh Kun Yang (Singapore), and M Nur Jamal (Bangladesh) hit tee shots at the tenth hole.
Bangladesh Golf Federation secretary general Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah and Junior Division Golf president Major General Mohammad Masud Razzak were present there.
Country’s top golfer Siddikur Rahman took his tee shot at the tenth hole at 7:30am with Digvijay Singh (India) and Thaworn Wiratchant (Thailand).
A total of 156 golfers, including 31 from home, have taken part at tournament. The prize money of the tournament is USD 300,000.
World famous golfers including Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh, Rashid Khan of India, Mardan Mamat of Singapore and Berry Henson of the USA are said to be the main attraction of the tournament.
Additional security measures have been taken to thwart any unexpected incident in the tournament. Weather forecast is also being announced to avoid any inconvenience.
Earlier on Tuesday, a Pro-Am event was held in this regard. Additional Managing Director of Bashundhara Group Safwan Sobhan attended the event.
Bashundhara Group adviser Major General (Retd) Mahbub Haider, adviser (public relations) Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Khandaker Abdul Wahed and marketing head MM Jasim Uddin, among others, were also present at the function.
On May 4, the logo of the tournament was unveiled at a ceremony in city’s Bashundhara International Convention Center in city.
Country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group signed an agreement with Bangladesh Gold Federation for three years on April 7.
