DHAKA: Debutant Proteas pacer Kagiso Rabada grabbed a hat-trick in the fourth over that left host Bangladesh tattering in their innings in the first one-day international of three-match ODI series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in city Friday.
The victims of the hat-trick were Tamim Iqbal (0), Litton Das (0) and Mahmudullah (0). Later, he took another wicket and extended the tally to four. This time it was Soumya Sarker (27), who was trying to counterattack the visiting bowlers.
Currently, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim are on the crease with 11 and 7-run respectively. Bangladesh scored 59-run losing four wickets after 11-over.
Rabada was the second bowler to take a hat-trick on debut in ODIs. Taijul Islam of Bangladesh was the first ever bowler to take such credit.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and elected to bat first in the match that started at 5:40pm local time.
However, the rain hit match was curtailed to 40 overs a side.
The match will be played under the new ODI rules, in which there need not be compulsory fielders in the 15-yard circle.
In addition to the removal of the batting Powerplay and free-hits for all no-balls, five fielders are now allowed outside the 30-yard circle during the last 10 overs.
