DHAKA: Bangladesh thumped South Africa by nine wickets in the third One Day International to win their first bilateral series against South Africa in Chittagong on Wednesday.
Bangladesh reached the winning target -170 runs - set by the D/L (Duckworth-Lewis) method with 83 balls remaining in the series decider match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Openers Soumya Sarkar and Tamim Iqbal confirmed the win with their 90 runs and 61 not out respectively.
Earlier, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. The match began at 3:00 local time (09:00 GMT).
The visiting South Africa, however, scored 168 for nine. Jean-Paul Duminy took the highest 51 off 99 balls while David Andrew Miller 44 off 57 balls.
World’s top all-rounder Shakib-Al-Hasan bagged three wickets.
He touched the landmark of the 200-wicket club in the match as second Bangladeshi after Abdur Razzak.
Besides, Rookie Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain bagged two wickets each while Mahmudullah and Mashrafe Morataza picked up one each.
