DHAKA: Bangladesh have taken the first wicket of visiting South Africa in the first day of the first test of two-match series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong Tuesday.
Mahmudullah was the bowler who took the wicket of Stiaan van Zyl in an innocuous arm-ball, sliding down leg. Stiaan sought to glance it away fine. Instead, the ball brushes the face and Litton took it, moving to his right.
South Africa scored 66-run losing one wicket after 16-over. The opening stand was broken on 58-run.
Earlier in the day, South Africa captain Hashim Amla won the toss and choose to bat first in the match that started at 9:30am local time.
Meanwhile, 19-year old Mustafizur Rahman was the only debutant across both sides.
Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha believes that the series will be decided by how well the hosts handle South Africa’s ‘world-class pace attack’.
Bangladesh will seek to carry their limited-overs success into Tests and build solidity but they will have to contend with a South African side reinforced by the arrival of Dale Steyn, who has begun the four-finger countdown to get his 400 test wickets.
