DHAKA: Rain has delayed the start of the fifth day's play of the first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa in Chittagong on Saturday.
Heavy showers completely washed out he fourth day's play without a ball being bowled at Zahur Ahmed Stadium on Friday.
South Africa were 61 for 0 & 248 trail Bangladesh 326 (Mahmudullah 67, Liton 50, Steyn 3-78) by 17 runs at stumps on the third day, with Van Zyl (33 not out), Elgar (28 not out) at the crease.
South Africa's openers had all but wiped away their deficit in the second innings and were set up to build a target for Bangladesh, whose attack had successfully tied them down in the first innings.
Earlier, tigers reached 326-run losing all wickets after 116.1-over in response to 248 runs Proteas scored in their first innings. Liton Das scored his maiden half century while Mohammad Shahid hit a brisk 25 off 19-ball with the help of four 4’s and one 6.
