DHAKA: The rain-savaged first cricket Test between Bangladesh and South Africa petered into a tame draw at Zahur Akhmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Saturday.
Before the final day’s play was called off, South Africa, as per scoreboard, had trailed Bangladesh by 17 runs.
This is Bangladesh's first draw v South Africa.
South Africa's openers had all but wiped away their deficit in the second innings and were set up to build a target for Bangladesh, whose attack had successfully tied them down in the first innings.
Imrul Kayes said that Bangladesh were disappointed at missing out on the fourth day's play, as he felt the hosts were in a better position than South Africa in the Chittagong Test.
Tamim Iqbal said: "Anyway Bangladesh will get a moral victory. They secured lead in the first innings."
Earlier, tigers reached 326-run losing all wickets after 116.1-over in response to 248 runs Proteas scored in their first innings. Liton Das scored his maiden half century while Mohammad Shahid hit a brisk 25 off 19-ball.
The 2nd Test between Bangladesh and South Africa will be held in Dhaka from July 30 to August 3, 2015.
