DHAKA: The maiden Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) Judo Cup Competition was held on BKSP premises on September 14 and 15.
Japan embassy and BKSP jointly organized the competition using the brand new judo facilities, recently provided by Japan government to BKSP under Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Project.
State minister for youth and sports Dr Biren Sikder was present as chief guest at the opening ceremony. Japan ambassador Masato Watanabe and BKSP director general Brigadier General Ali Murtaza Khan were also present at the ceremony.
Deputy minister Arif Khan Joy and Bangladesh Judo Federation president Brigadier General SK Abul Barak (Retd) were present at the closing and award giving ceremony.
About one hundred participants including a considerable number of female participants from 13 organizations -- BKSP, Dhaka University, Eden Girls’ College, Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB), Bangladesh Village Police, Bangladesh Ansar, Japanese Association in Bangladesh, Rajshahi Judo Club, Rajshahi Sports Council, Gaibandha Sports Council, Jamalpur Sports Council and Marshal Arts Sports Academy of Dhaka -- participated in the tournament.
Before the competition started, the participants warmed up by doing Bangla exercise jointly produced by BKSP and JICA volunteers.
Minister Shikder commended fun and easy exercise would highly be beneficial to improve people’s health condition if done regularly.
However, the Bangla exercise has already been introduced to some schools and a diabetic hospital where positive impact on health is expected, a press release said on Tuesday.
