Three cash-strapped banks have received liquidity support of Tk 265 crore under a special arrangement by Bangladesh Bank.
The liquidity assistance was provided by Dutch-Bangla Bank, City Bank, Pubali Bank, and Eastern Bank Limited, said Bangladesh Bank spokesperson and Executive Director Husne Ara Shikha on Tuesday (November 19).
Banks facing cash shortages are getting liquidity support from solvent banks under a special mechanism introduced by the central bank, which acts as the guarantor for these loans.
Earlier, seven struggling banks received Tk 6,585 crore in liquidity support from 10 solvent banks to address their cash crisis. Among them, Islami Bank received the highest support of Tk 2,095 crore from seven banks.
Social Islami Bank received Tk 1,175 crore from six banks, First Security Islami Bank got Tk 1,000 crore from six banks, National Bank received Tk 920 crore, Exim Bank Tk 700 crore, Union Bank Tk 400 crore, and Global Islami Bank received Tk 295 crore.
The banks providing liquidity support include Sonali Bank, Mutual Trust Bank, Eastern Bank, Shahjalal Islami Bank, The City Bank, BRAC Bank, Pubali Bank, Dhaka Bank, and Bengal Commercial Bank.
